Chris caught up with Cliff Stubblefield and his sons Miles and Max at the 2026 Smoky Mountain Big Rig Showdown in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, to check out their sharp 1998 Peterbilt 379. This isn't just a show truck. Cliff has owned the 379 for nearly 16 years, and it still earns its keep pulling a flatbed and hauling steel on runs between Alabama, Ohio, Chicago and back. With approximately 2.5 million miles, a 500 Detroit, 13-speed transmission and 3.70 rears, this Peterbilt has plenty of real working-truck history behind it. Cliff walks us through some of the custom touches, including the RoadWorks bumper and grille, Dane Nelson bug shield, RLK visor, six-inch Dynaflex stacks and the "Homer" nickname etched into the glass by his wife. We also get a look inside the cab, where Cliff, his wife and a friend completely redid the interior themselves, smoothing and color-matching the dash and adding wood-grain wrapped panels. At night, the truck comes alive with around 25 Grand General gold-and-amber watermelon lights, giving this hard-working 379 a clean classic look without going overboard. Chris caught up with Jordan from JSH the morning after the Laid Back on I-55 Truck Show to take a closer look at his 2023 Kenworth W900 known as “Slowpoke.” The name comes from a pickup his dad owned back in the 1980s, but there isn’t much “slow” about what JSH has built here. This was Jordan’s first brand-new truck, and aside from the paint, nearly everything you see was done in-house at their shop — including the boxes, exhaust, breathers, front air ride, and plenty of custom 12 Gauge components. The truck sits on a 291-inch wheelbase and keeps a simple, old-school look inspired by the trucks Jordan loves from the 1970s and ’80s. It also features custom pinstriping by Lady Lines, a unique deck plate, matching T-bar and bumper details, and a built-from-scratch engine assembled at JSH. Jordan explains that JSH can take a build anywhere from mild to wild, whether someone wants a dependable everyday working truck or something considerably more serious. “Slowpoke” still gets some work when Jordan can get away from the shop, but he describes it primarily as a rolling billboard for the family business. And the truck isn’t finished yet. At just 21 years old, Devin Castleman of Long Lane, Missouri, is only a few months into his trucking career—but he's already behind the wheel of an impressive 2026 Kenworth W900. Chris caught up with Devin at the 2026 Laid Back on I-55 Truck Show in Perryville, Missouri, where he shared how growing up around a family sale barn and riding with his grandfather planted the seed for a career in trucking. After earning his CDL in March, Devin traded his previous job as a union paving operator for the open road and hasn't looked back. The W900, owned by Justin Croff, features British Racing Green accents, custom pinstriping, front Air Ride and interior work completed by "Built By Wolf" in California. Underneath, it's equipped with a Cummins X15, 18-speed transmission, 3.36 rears and a 291-inch wheelbase. And this isn't just a show truck. With more than 38,000 miles already on it, it's been put to work hauling cattle, horses and live chickens, with grain hauling next on the schedule. Devin has even already made the run to California as part of a team-driving trip. What makes Devin's story especially interesting is how quickly things came together. At the 2026 Laid Back on I-55 Truck Show in Perryville, Missouri, Chris caught up with Maurice “Mo” Zurliene of New Baden, Illinois, and his remarkably preserved 1982 Ford LTL 9000. Mo is only the second owner of this Ford, which was originally ordered and specced by its first owner before he drove it right off the assembly line in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1981. The truck is powered by an 8V92 Silver Series V8 Detroit Diesel, backed by a 13-speed transmission, and has just 488,000 miles on it. Even more impressive, the paint is still original, the truck retains many of the options documented on its original build sheets, and it has only had one trailer hooked to it in the last 30 years. Mo says that when he finally did pull a trailer with it, the old Ford “drove like a Cadillac.” We take a closer look inside and underneath this classic LTL, and fire up that two-stroke Detroit to hear it run.
